Antique furniture brings a feeling of nostalgia. They bring a sense of classic elegance and beauty to wherever they are placed. If you had been passed on with one or simply own one, consider your self lucky as they are quite hard to obtain on these contemporary days especially with their prices.
Antique wood burning stoves are included on the list of that furniture to behold. To have one of them is a big plus to your kitchen especially if you are one who is up to an old Victorian theme.
They are basically of different sizes from small to large. They can be also made of different materials such as cast iron and soapstone. Apart from that, they are as well in a variety of types. There are those that are especially for inside-the-kitchen use while some are purposely for outdoor activities.
However, to have the best of them, proper care must be given to both inside and outside of the stove. The chimney, which serves as passage for smoke, must also be given serious cleaning consideration as they can greatly affect the effective and safe use of the wood burning stove. Before the installation, these things must be well thought of to avoid rejections and complications.
Let us say though that you already know about those things yet your problem is not anywhere closer to choosing or maintaining the stove. Rather it is about restoring it. Could there be information or advice that you can get specifically about it? Well, of course, there is. In fact, this very article will help you with how to restore your antique wood burning stoves through the following steps.
- Whether it is a hunter stove you have or any other kind, they are prone to dirt and rust. You can use a wire brush to remove those. A hammer or a chisel can also be used if it is decayed and old cement that you have to get rid of.
- To fill and repair cracks and seams, make use of a putty knife to apply fresh stove cement. Before doing that though, wet the surface with a paper towel. If you committed any mistake to the application of the cement wipe it immediately with a wet paper towel. Wait 24 hrs for the cement to dry.
- With a damp rag, clean the antique stove’s surface. Apply then a stove coating using a soft cloth. Make sure to give extra attention to the decorative part of the stove.
- Dry the coating for a few minutes and then buff the outside surface of the stove. After a day, you can already use your brand new looking antique wood stove.
